We went to Bath

Weekend in Bath

My wife had wanted to go to Bath so as treat for her birthday we did just that, I found it to be a thriving busy eventful city full of things to do and see. The drive from st Helens was just under 200 miles and took 3 and half hours mercifully the motorways were clear and free of jams.
We were booked into The Lansdown Grove hotel which was fine perhaps a bit clinical and of course the staff are all Eastern European and whilst have a good command of English they basicly engage on a minimum basis. The food is nothing special but adequate and designed at a price point that surfices, so after booking in we went off to the Thermae Bath Spa whilst its nice its vastly over priced for almost £80 we got a rather delicous bowl of soup and a two hour splash about in the steam room and small pools its just not worth it. Perhaps its my Northern roots.

It's thirsty work sitting in a sauna so after getting all hot and sweaty a real ale pub was required to cool of and refresh the soul. Our first saute was The Old Green Tree having searched google for advice, I can't just have one my wife only manages a half once you have the taste your hooked. I had two and have to say they werent the best, again it must be my Northern roots they lacked taste and body. We then went to the The Star Inn and there seemed to be much more choice and tastier beer so another couple of samples were taken. I really enjoy folk music and within a half an hour 4/5 muscians turned up one on guitar, one on mandolin and two on violin and they were brilliant.

The following day we visited the Roman Baths and given it costs £14 Id have to say its well worth it.

Bath is well known for its buskers
